Atruent Gives Back To The Community – August and October 2017 Events

This year, I had the privilege to be part of the flagship program of the amazing organization Leadership Anne Arundel (LAA) (http://leadershipaa.org/programs/flagship-program) . I was able to learn so much of my newly adopted County. We proudly called ourselves The Magnificent Seven-Teen, and we are with no doubt the best class ever so far (I know that everyone says that every year, but we are :)).

Throughout the year, many friendships were developing amongst classmates, we still meet (or try to) on a regular basis.

While it is hard to pick a highlight, two fantastic opportunities were presented to me through this program.

1- Helping Children

Once you make the commitment to belong to LAA Flagship, one of your assignments is to come up with a group project that hopefully will carry on even when the year is over. The goal of this group project is to get involved with the community and hopefully make a difference.

Dona Rudderow Sturn, one of my LAA classmates, is no stranger to Corporate Social Responsibility. She formed a wonderful organization helping Kids Nurture Character, Courage and Confidence. Check out her website at http://thejnpproject.org/.

Why reinvent the wheel when it is already rolling? Our LAA Group Project evolved into helping her promote her mission, passion and dedication. After many Think Tank Sessions, and a lot of reaching out, our efforts were able to produce this fantastic event:

WHAT:

LAA FLG17 and APD are partnering together in a Community effort to create an annual, sustainable, Superhero Camp for specific at-risk children in our Community.

LAA FLG17 is organizing and supporting this effort, both in time and sponsorships, in order to assist the APD to nurture at-risk children to: 1.) Come to understand the Police care and are their friends, and 2.) This Camp is mostly the only way these children have an opportunity for adult nurturing healthy self-esteem in an environment of discovery and learning.

WHERE:

Annapolis Walk Recreation Center (Behind Safeway on Forest Drive) - 1701 Belle Drive, Annapolis MD 21401

WHEN:

August 14, 15, 16, 2017 – 9:00am-3:00pm (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). Our Children are our future, all of Atruent staff will proudly be there to support these kids on each of these days. We will definitely post pictures and feedback of this event. I already know that everyone will have a blast.

2- Helping The Community

Lisa Spallitta, Executive Director of Anne Arundel County Volunteer Center (www.aacvc.org), is another LAA Classmate of mine. During our first lunch reunion after graduation, we sat next to each other and she mentioned to me that she was working on a big Fundraiser for the Volunteer Center.

The Volunteer Center is Anne Arundel community’s “volunteer connector.” Along with their partner community agencies, they are proving that volunteer action is a powerful force for creating change. For every $1 donated to the Volunteer Center they give back $20 in volunteer time to the community.

When I asked for details, she explains that the event is called Cheers For Volunteers, and will be a Wine Tasting and Travel Auction on October 27th 2017. She had me at “Wine” and I of course volunteered to be in the Organization Committee.

This event will take place at The Renditions Golf Course (Davidsonville, MD) on Friday October 27th 2017 at 6:30pm.

We are still prepping around the clock for this event and I will post more updates as they become available to me. Tickets will be $65 and go on sale at www.aacvc.org/cheers. You also have the opportunity to become a sponsor for this incredible organization and event on that same URL link.

I would like to see you all there! It is for a good cause, and there will be good wine, good food and incredible trips to bid on!!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Cheers!
